Stealthwall becomes a millenium product
7 Jan 2000
Stealthwall has been granted Millennium Product status by the Prime Minister, Tony Blair
Stealthwall has been granted Millennium Products status by the Design Council after Prime Minister Tony Blair challenged businesses to show that Britain is the creative powerhouse of the world. The news was announced by the Prime Minister at the launch of the fifth tranche of the Design Council's Millennium Products initiative.
Stealthwall, manufactured in Belfast by EDM Spanwall Limited, is a bespoke wall cladding system that is designed to absorb and neutralise secondary surveillance radar signals. It has been successfully utilised on the £250 million British Airways World Cargocentre at Heathrow Airport. The system is factory tested at all relevant radar incident angles and is the latest in an innovative range of cladding products form EDM Spanwall Limited.
Wing Commander Ramsey Brown, a radar consultant to the Civil Aviation Authority has stated: "The Stealthwall radar absorbing panel system should make airports safer and may well revolutionise their design. It will now be possible to build taller buildings closer to air traffic radars without interfering with them and thus jeopardizing safe and expeditious air traffic control."
According to Mr Tony Reid, Chief Executive of EDM Spanwall Limited: 'We expect Stealthwall to have quite an impact on our business which will probably mean more local jobs. I am delighted that as a Millennium Product, Stealthwall will be exhibited at the Spiral of Innovation at the Millennium Dome'.
Andrew Summers, Chief Executive of the Design Council said: "We offer our warmest congratulations to Mr Tony Reid of EDM Spanwall Limited for the selection of Stealthwall as a Millennium Product. We sincerely hope that Stealthwall will be a big success for the company and we hope that Millennium Products status will encourage EDM Spanwall Limited in further successful innovations."
